If you can talk for an hour and a half about something, (which is not long) you can make it a course…Chris Croft – How I create best-selling training videos
An easy approach to selling?
“You could try marketing your course yourself, put it on your own website, but nobody’s gonna see it because people don’t come to our own websites much.
Udemy has huge footfall like millions of people a day, but they’ve still got to find you on there.
So you’ve got to have the search tags and a good title, and preferably get to page one.
What I do for that is I launch my courses by giving away 200 free ones. And then another unlimited number at a reduced price.
I send that out to my mailing list, because I’ve got about 20,000 people on my mailing list that I’ve built up over the years, and so those 200 go in about five minutes.
If you sell 200, or even giveaway 200 on day one, then Udemy notices that and puts your course higher up the search.
They know the difference between giving them away and selling them as well but if you do some sort of promotion at the beginning that can get you high up, then you can then hopefully stay high up from then on.“
If I see something that I think I could do well and can make money from… I decide to do it!Chris Croft – How I create best-selling training videos
Diversification is key
“I’ve got training friends who made no money at all during lockdown because they thought their training wouldn’t work over zoom.
I found ways to make my courses work over zoom! And last year, my zoom income and my face-to-face income were exactly the same.
So now, leaving aside the courses, my training income is now 50/50. And that feels like a good mix.”
The recipe to great training videos
“You’ve got to have some interesting nuggets that you’ve collected from lots of books, and you got to have a little bit that’s unique to you that you’ve made up.
I think those three things, the classic, the nuggets, the interest, and the unique should all be in there.
But none of that is about being a world expert and I really don’t think people have to worry about that.”
