What is neurodivergence strength? Well, by embracing neurodiversity you can unlock hidden talent, improve retention and creativity, and appreciate different perspectives.

This week I’m chatting with Jess Meredith, Chief Executive Officer and Co-founder of Differing Minds.

Jess works with Organisations, Education Settings, and Individuals to kickstart or accelerate neuro-inclusion strategies through engaging and effective training and consulting. :brain:

She is passionate about creating neuro-inclusive environments and is proud to have ADHD herself.

Jess knows first-hand what it is like to be neurodivergent and what strengths that can yield. And if you think neurodiversity doesn’t impact you, Jess is here to tell you, it does:bangbang:

Roughly 1 in 5 of us are in the neurominority so it’s all of our responsibilities to understand it and support others.

Tune in and you’ll learn the following, plus much more:

  • Why your cognitive diversity is a wonderful thing
  • The incredible strengths of ADHDers.

There is so much talent within the neurodivergent population that is just not being utilised.

What is neurodivergence strength to Jess.

Having my diagnosis has been the most validating liberating experience of my life.

Not wholly positive, that’s for sure because you do look back on lots of things and it would have been very helpful to understand more about me earlier on.

But it really has been very helpful.

It’s just about understanding yourself better. Once you understand yourself better, the diagnosis doesn’t really matter.

It’s about understanding what parts of you, or in my case, my ADHD, are helping me and what parts are hindering me.

What I can do to set myself up to make the best of myself.

I can do that a lot better now than I could before. I understood myself, and my ADHD diagnosis has been a huge part of that.

If you’re not thinking about neurodiversity and becoming neuro-inclusive, you’re failing people you work with.

Ways to be more neuro-inclusive.

There are stereotypes that exist for all of our differences. And a lot of people hold on to those and think if someone says, I’m autistic, then they know what that person is going to be like. And that’s just not the case. So the best thing that you can do, if somebody tells you is just to ask them about it,

So say they’re a coachee? Ask them if there is anything you can do as a coach to make the coach/coachee relationship better. Ask them what strengths they possess as a result of being neurodivergent and if there is anything they find more challenging.

Take-aways you do not want to miss πŸ‘‡

  • What is neurodivergence?
  • Neurological differences
  • The importance of understanding neurodivergence for your business
  • How you can support a neurodiverse client
  • Why being neurodivergent isn’t a bad thing
